Les Docks - the realm of great style

First of all, I'm sorry for such a long silence but my holidays were so intense that I couldn't spend too much time on the Internet. 

But now to the point! In my last post I wrote about the latest exhibition displayed in Les Docks. Today, I would like to tell you some more about this place beacuse it's really noteworthy. Les Docks - Cité de la Mode et du Design is located on the banks of the River Seine, between the Bastille and the Jardin des Plantes which gives it a great attractiveness in the eyes of Parisians who like to spend their free time in the city.

Przede wszystkim przepraszam za tak długie milczenie, ale moje wakacje były tak intensywne, że nie miałam zbyt wiele czasu by siedzieć w Internecie. 

A teraz do rzeczy. W moim ostatnim poście pisałam o ostatniej wystawie zorganizowanej w Les Docks. Dzisiaj chciałabym powiedzieć Wam nieco więcej o tym miejscu, ponieważ jest naprawdę godne uwagi. Les Docks - Cité de la Mode et du Design znajduje się nad brzegiem Sekwany, między Bastylią i Jardin des Plantes, co dodaje mu niezwykłej atrakcyjności w oczach Paryżan lubiących spędzać swój wolny czas w mieście.

What I particularly like about Les Docks is their ultra-modern architecture, in which the lush green steel components are combined with warm brown wood terraces. The dynamic shape of the building fits perfectly into the modern charater of the district.

To co szczególnie lubię w Dokach to ich ultra-współczesna architektura, w której soczysta zieleń stalowych elementów łączy się z ciepłym brązem drewnianych tarasów. Dynamiczna bryła budynku doskonale wpisuje się w nowoczesny charakter tej dzielnicy. 

You'll find there many designer shops and boutiques of niche fashion brands with an original interior design. Les Docks are a frequent venue for fashion and art exhibitions and host within its walls a few nice restaurants. In short, you can do some great shopping there, attend cultural events and after all relax on the sun terrace.

Znajdziecie tam wiele designerskich sklepów i butików niszowych marek odzieżowych z oryginalnym wystrojem wnętrz. Les Docks są też częstym miejscem wystaw mododowych i artystycznych oraz goszczą w swoich murach kilka przyjemnych restauracji. Słowem, możecie tam zrobić świetne zakupy, uczestniczyć w wydarzeniach kulturalnych i po wszystkim odpocząć na słonecznym tarasie.

Summer fun in the city

Another hot summer day, everyone is looking for a cold drink and a bit of water you can jump in to refresh. We know this scenario because it's repeated every year.
An exhibition that I recently visited presents how Parisians, from the end of the nineteenth century to the sixties, used to spend their summer days enjoying the charms of this beautiful city.

Kolejny gorący letni dzień, każdy szuka zimnego napoju i trochę wody, do której można by wskoczyć dla ochłody. Znamy ten scenariusz, bo powtarza się co roku.
Wystawa, którą niedawno odwiedziłam pokazuje jak Paryżanie, od końca XIX wieku do lat sześćdziesiątych, zwykli spędzać lato korzystając z uroków tego pięknego miasta.

The exhibition is entitled "La Parisienne en été" and focuses primarily on women. Black-and-white photos illustrate how, through these eighty years, summer fashion and taste of Parisian women were changing, where they liked to spend their free time on sunny afternoons and which places were the best for evening meetings with friends.

Wystawa nosi tytuł "Paryżanka w lecie" i skupia się przede wszystkim na kobietach. Czarno-białe zdjęcia pokazują jak przez te osiemdziesiąt lat zmieniała się letnia moda i upodobania Paryżanek, gdzie lubiły spędzać swój wolny czas w słoneczne popołudnia i jakie miejsca były najlepsze na wieczorne spotkanie ze znajomymi.

A great exhibition to see on vacation, for all those who like retro atmosphere, fashion and a little bit of art. Les Docks, where the photos are displayed, are also a perfect place to drink something and relax after visiting the exhibition. You'll find there one of the most amazing sun terrace in the city with a view of the Seine River and the modern landscape of 13th district. Satisfaction guaranteed! :)

Doskonała wystawa do obejrzenia w wakacje, dla wszystkich lubiących klimat retro, modę i odrobinę sztuki. Les Docks, w których zdjęcia zostały wystawione to również doskonałe miejsce aby po zwiedzeniu wystawy zamówić drinka i odpocząć na słonecznym tarasie z widokiem na Sekwanę i modernistyczny krajobraz 13-tej dzielnicy. Satysfakcja gwarantowana! :)

Dior's Secret Garden

I decided to dedicate today's post to the latest Dior ad campaign that delighted me with its originality. From a few weeks we can admire the new installement of the campaign launched last season - Secret Garden 2, which Unseen Garden is an essential part. It's a fashion photo shoot that goes far beyond the typical fashion photo campaign.

Dzisiejszy post postanowiłam poświęcić najnowej kampanii reklamowej domu mody Dior, która zachwyciła mnie swoją oryginalnością. Od kilku tygodni możemy podziwiać nową odsłonę kampanii rozpoczętej w zeszłym sezonie - Secret Garden 2, którego istotną część stanowi Unseen Garden - sesja zdjęciowa wykraczają zdecydowanie poza ramy typowej kampanii modowej. 

Unseen Garden consists of a photo shoot and a short promotional video realized ​​entirely in the gardens of Versailles. Interestingly, however, this is the part where tourists usually do not come and instead of geometrically shaped French gardens we have there a wild trees and shrubs, a nature left to itself. Dutch photographer team - Inez van Lamsweerde and Vinoodh Matadin - use it to create an impression of strangeness and mystery of this fantastic garden. An insightful observer can see and feel the atmosphere like in David Lynch movies, combined with some references to "Alice in Wonderland" (though more the adult version).

Co ciekawe, jest to jednak ta ich część, do której turyści zwykle nie docierają - zamiast geometrycznie przystrzyżonych francuskich ogrodów mamy tu dziko rosnące drzewa i krzewy, naturę pozostawioną samą sobie. Duński kolektyw fotografów - Inez van Lamsweerde i Vinoodh Matadin - wykorzystuje to aby wykreować atmosferę dziwności i tajemniczości tego fantastycznego ogrodu. Wnikliwy obserwator może dostrzec i wyczuć klimat rodem z filmów Davida Lyncha, połączony z nawiązaniami do "Alicji w krainie czarów" (choć bardziej w wersji dla dorosłych).

There are also some references to the nineteenth-century French painting as one of the pictures in which models are copying the poses of Edouard Manet's "Luncheon on the Grass" characters.

Pojawiają się również pewne nawiązania do dziewiętnastowiecznego malarstwa francuskiego jak choćby jedno ze zdjęć, na którym modelki kopiują pozy bohaterów "Śniadania na trawie" Edouarda Maneta.

Saint Ouen Flea Market

In Paris you can probably find every kind of shop, from designers and major fashion brands boutiques to vintage stores and second-hand shops. But if you like vintage and retro style or, more generally, so-called objects with a soul, there is only one place where you can admire (and buy) them all without crawling all over the city and ruin your pocket - the flea market of Saint Ouen.

W Paryżu można znaleźć prawdopodobnie każdy rodzaj sklepów, od butików designerów i wielkich marek modowych po vintage stores i second-handy. Jednak jeśli lubicie styl vintage i retro lub ogólnie, tzw. przedmioty z duszą, jest tylko jedno miejsce gdzie można podziwiać (i kupić) je wszystkie bez przemierzania całego miasta i zrujnowania kieszeni - pchli targ w Saint Ouen. 

The world's biggest and the most popular Parisian flea market is technically located outside the city, but you need to walk just a few dozen meters from Porte de Clignancourt metro station to get to this kingdom of treasures.

Największy na świecie i najpopularniejszy paryski pchli targ, technicznie jest położony już poza obrębem miasta, jednak wystarczy przejść kilkadziesiąt metrów od stacji metra Porte de Clignancourt aby trafić do tego królestwa skarbów. 

Dozens of stands every weekend presents thousands of items - furniture, unique editions of books and back issues of magazines, old posters, paintings, clothes and many other things that you may not even know exist!

Kilkadziesiąt stoisk w każdy weekend prezentuje tysiące przedmiotów - meble, unikatowe wydania książek i stare numery czasopism, plakaty, obrazy, ubrania i wiele wiele innych rzeczy, o których istnieniu być może nawet nie mieliście pojęcia!

What's more, the owners of these magic shops often speak fluent English and are always willing to chat, which is quite a sensation here and very helpful for visitors who don't speak French. 

Ponadto, właściciele tych magicznych sklepów często mówią płynnie po angielsku i zawsze są chętni do rozmowy, co jak na Paryż, jest sporym ewenementem i ułatwieniem dla nie mówiących po francusku zwiedzających.

So the next time you're in Paris, you must visit St-Ouen flea market.

Więc gdy następnym razem będziecie w Paryżu, musicie odwiedzić pchli targ w St-Ouen.

Why to write a blog about Paris? There would be many answers but the beast are those the simplest and the most obvious ones - because it's Paris! A city that never gets old, always so charming and electrifying, although some have hailed it as overrated and boring. Whereas in my daily observation, I see that there is still a lot of new and interesting places to visit, cultural phenomena to observe and amazing things to ferret out (from flea markets and vintage stores to niche designer boutiques). So if you love this city and Parisian style like me or you are going to Paris and you are interested in seeing something more than what guide books suggest I invite you to follow my posts there, use insider tips and share your opinions and experiences with me!

Dlaczego pisać blog o Paryżu? Odpowiedzi znalazłoby się pewnie wiele, ale najlepsza są te najprostrze i najbardziej oczywiste - bo to Paryż! Miasto, które się nie starzeje, które zawsze jest tak samo czarujące i elektryzujące, mimo że wielu okrzyknęło je już przereklamowanym i nudnym. Tymczasem, z moich codziennych obserwacji wynika, że ciągle jest tu wiele nowych i ciekawych miejsc do odwiedzenia, ulicznych i kulturowych fenomenów do zaobserwowania oraz niesamowitych rzeczy do wyszperania (od pchlich targów i sklepów vintage po niszowe designerskie butiki). Jeżeli więc lubicie to miasto i paryski styl tak jak ja lub wybieracie się do Paryża i interesuje Was zobaczenie czegoś więcej niż to co sugerują przewodniki zapraszam do śledzenia moich wpisów, korzystania z tipów insidera i dzielenia się Waszymi opiniami i doświadczeniami !
